Guðný B.

Item: Rjúpan (‘The Ptarmingan’)

Guðný moved to England when she was 24 and every time she returned to Iceland she would take a photo of Rjúpan as a memento. As a child she had been fascinated by the small porcelain Ptarmigan which her great grandmother, Guðbjörg, kept in her living room. When Guðbjörg died, Guðný’s grandparents gave Rjúpan to her parents for safe keeping, knowing how much she loved it. Eventually in 2010 her parents sent it to be with her in England, during which journey it picked up a small chip in its beak.

It now sits on Guðný’s window sill in her bedroom in south London.
